Anya’s Favorite TV Witches

We've a special treat for you this week, as we've gone international again with our friend Anya Breton, all the way from the US of A!  She's got a great new witch story out this week, so be prepared to drive on the other side of the road as she tells us all about her favourite TV witches ...

L. K. said lighthearted is the rule for her blog. Being a goofball, it’s usually not terribly difficult for me to come up with something lighthearted. Then she said, “perhaps a witch theme”. Good idea since the book I'm pimping on my visit, The Only Sorceress, is about magic, witches, and one sorceress. The problem is I don’t think of “light-hearted” when I think of witches.

I think of pointy hats, green skin, and sharp noses. Oh, and let’s not forget burning. Definitely burning.

So I was stumped for a little while. Then I got to thinking … Hey, wait, my favorite witch is Witch Hazel! I decided to compile a quick list of my top three television witches.

This adorable witch featured in a few Bugs Bunny cartoons. She’s a bit of a cannibal but I don’t hold it against her. That Hansel and Gretel had it coming J Did you see the way they were packing in those sweets?

Hazel’s sparkling banter is a hoot. Here’s a quote from after she mounts her flying broom:  “Notice how I ride sidesaddle. It proves I’m a lady of quality.”

But what I love most about her is her cackle.

Here are some clips to get you going on Ms. Hazel:

Next, of course is the badass nerd-girl turned witch: Willow Rosenberg, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Especially when she turned into Evil Willow.

Willow was probably my favorite character in the series long before she began tinkering with magic. And after? Let’s just say I had a serious girl crush.

Some fans put together a little montage of her best witchy moments.

Any mention of witches has to include the Charmed Ones from Charmed.

These ladies always had the coolest fashions even when they were fighting stinky demons. And there were plenty of laughs (let’s not mention the blubbering tears though).

My favorite Charmed One was Phoebe … and that’s solely because of Cole. Mmm, Cole. But, Phoebe did have some athletic moves that made her pretty bad ass.

Here’s a cute video of my favorite Charmed couple.

Honorable Mention – Bewitched’s Endora
“Endora” on Bewitched would be my honorable mention. I wasn’t a fan of Samantha herself, but her mother was a hoot … at least to prepubescent me. And her flare for color? To die for ;)

Endora on baseball: “Typical. That's a human being for you. Spend most of their lives running around in circles for a series of nothing.”

Here are a few of Endora’s best moments.

Right, I threatened to pimp my book. All this talk about witches and my heroine isn’t a witch! But she’s recently moved into a colony of them. And as Hecate’s daughter, she’s no slouch in the magic department.

Here’s the blurb for my newest book The Only Sorceress, which is book one in a brand new series.

Self-proclaimed sorceress Kora Walsh knows exactly how to use her shiny new MBA. She’ll open a new age shop in a colony of the country’s most powerful witches. But the town rife with bigots doesn’t want her or her sleek shop tainting their perfect community.

Kora would leave if she had any choice in the matter. She’s trained from childhood for her true task – infiltrating coven leadership as her mother’s mole. Failure to do her familial duty is not an option, not when her childhood nemesis is assured her failed soul for an eternity of torture.

And thanks to the colony’s loudest supporter, the beautiful Desmond Marino, failure is a very real danger.

Thanks for having me, L. K.!  Who is YOUR favorite witch?
